“The strength of the wolf is the pack. And the strength of the pack is the wolf”
Rudyard Kipling became our family motto designing our own connected family pack where as each individual thrived, the family thrived too.
It all started when my eldest son Trae was on the receiving end of some children’s "bully like" behaviours at childcare.
At 4yo he regressed from being a curious, engaged, friendly child to withdrawn, scared, hesitant, meek kid. It broke mine and my husband's hearts and we were at a loss of what to do, or how to support him.
Thankfully I had recently started my masters in coaching which included parent, kids & relationship coaching.
I implemented everything I was learning into our home environment immediately. As we began to design our family unit, our Wolfpak was born.
Trae went off to kinder with his Wolfpak band in tow, a visual reminder that we are with him every step of the way. His transition to kinder was seamless. He walked straight in head held high, and started interacting with children again. Emotional relief tears streamed down my face when I had a moment to myself, knowing that every bit of intentional energy and focus over those few months was worth it.
Then “lockdowns” entered.
And we ran with it. Our home turned into an emotional learning zone, jam packed with fun interactive games and play.
We loved it. He loved it, and he thrived.
Trae had just started Gracie Jiu Jitsu and their kids Bullyproof program, which aligned with everything we were teaching at home. During the online training sessions the kids began to notice some kids missing that connection, so they asked if we could make more Wolfpak bands and send them off to the kids so they knew “they belonged and weren’t alone”.
Then came school. And I won’t lie, I was scared. School was bigger than kinder, or childcare, there were more kids he was going to be exposed to. But we kept up our intentions on developing his EI (Emotional Intelligence)
Just like kinder he walked straight into school, and loved every second of it. There were kids who didn’t and he noticed.
He asked me "why don't all kids know about the brain, or have the words for their emotions?" And quoting him he said “if all kids were Bullyproof there’d be no need for bullies.” He then asked “muma what if you taught the kids the stuff you teach us”. He had planted the seed.
What I was finding in my personal coaching practice as a Trauma Resolution & Family Dynamic Coach was the age of the kids self harming, erratic and dangerous behaviours, and even letters of suicide to their parents are getting younger and younger each and every time. And whilst I worked on their well-being team, I felt reactive. Because these kids needed the support before it got to this point. PLUS it was becoming too close to home. Closer to the age of my children.
So we knew something had to change.
Wolfpak & Co was born. A place where everybody belongs.
Supporting and educating the whole system. The parents, the educators, and most importantly the kids.
We’ve hit more roadblocks than I would have liked, getting programs like this into schools costs money. Money some schools just don’t have.
So Trae asked in prep “how can we get more of these?” (Holding a $50 dollar note he’d been given for some fundraising he was doing for his school) and at the bright young age of 6 years old he said “if we could get more of these it will help the kids at school” - Yes it would.
So together we brainstormed and came up with the idea of setting up a NFP selling Merch where all the profits from the products sold would go into grants for schools to gain access to these programs.
So here we are, being the change we wish to see in the world.
Today we are one step closer to supporting kids' mental and emotional health & wellbeing in primary schools and it's because of your love and support we're able to do this.
Thank you.
